Here’s a simple, yet profound New Year’s Day practice borrowed from a Centering Prayer group I belong to.
Consider your own sacred ritual for New Year’s Eve…for releasing
thoughts, feelings and habits that are no longer useful.
You might do something like the following:
Write on a piece of paper what you wish to let go of at this time,
be it a place of unforgiveness or lingering bitterness,
a self-centered habit, an unhealthy dependency.
Light a match to this piece of paper.
Let it go.
Give it to God.
That way you don’t have to rely on your own feeble resources but you get to entrust it to the most powerful source of all that is.
